Cybersecurity Intern

Orthoplex Solutions is seeking a Cybersecurity Intern to join our growing security team. This internship is ideal for motivated individuals eager to gain hands-on experience protecting applications, infrastructure, and data for clients across North America and Europe. You’ll work on real-world security projects and learn practical defensive and investigative techniques. This two-month unpaid internship is designed to provide valuable experience, mentorship, and a strong foundation in cybersecurity principles and practices.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the security lead to implement security controls, hardening, and monitoring for web and mobile applications and cloud infrastructure.
  • Participate in agile ceremonies including sprint planning, daily scrums, and retrospectives.
  • Assist with vulnerability assessments, penetration testing (under supervision), and remediation tracking.
  • Help triage security alerts, investigate incidents, and document findings and mitigation steps.
  • Support the development and maintenance of secure development guidelines, checklists, and automation (SAST/DAST or IaC scanning).
  • Collaborate with development, operations, QA, and product teams to integrate security into the SDLC.
  • Maintain clear documentation, contribute to security knowledge sharing, and produce concise reports for technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Required Skills:

  • Basic understanding of networking, operating systems (Windows/Linux), and common security concepts (confidentiality, integrity, availability).
  • Familiarity with web application fundamentals (HTTP, REST APIs) and common vulnerabilities (e.g., OWASP Top Ten).
  • Exposure to scripting or programming (Python, Bash, JavaScript, or similar).
  • Fundamental knowledge of authentication/authorization, cryptography fundamentals, and secure configuration practices.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Good communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Eagerness to learn modern security tools, cloud security practices (AWS/Azure/GCP basics), and incident response workflows.

Experience:

  • No professional experience required — training and mentorship will be provided.
  • Previous coursework, security-related labs, Capture The Flag (CTF) participation, personal security projects, or relevant internships are a plus.

Education:

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Security, Engineering, or a related field (Required).
